Since BlizzCon in 2019, fans have been waiting for the sequel to the popular first-person shooter. Many argued that 2021 would be the year it was released, since there was still no confirmed release date for BlizzCon 2020.

Since then, there have been massive delays in development and rumors that the game will not come out in 2021. Developers told players that there would be no new content until Overwatch 2, which is fueling the flames of angry social media fans.

When will Overwatch 2 come out?

Beyond the news that Overwatch 2 will not be released in 2021, there seems to be no confirmation that 2022 will be viable for release date either. Fans are left in the dark as to what is going on with the game.

Although more information is promised at BlizzConline, which takes place at the end of February. Now it has been confirmed that Overwatch 2 will not be released in 2021, fans are hoping that a more concrete date will be given at BlizzConline.

Rumors had been swirling since, before Activision Blizzard‘s earnings call, the game would not be coming this year due to a delay. Developers struggled to make the transition from home to work in 2020 and this further postponed the development of the game.

Fans are getting tired waiting for Overwatch 2

Now that it’s confirmed that the 2021 release doesn’t happen for Overwatch 2, there are a lot of angry fans who have taken to social media to express their frustration.

A lot of people hoped that Activision Blizzard would excite them and release the game, either during or shortly after BlizzConline. Combined with frustration that no new meaningful content has been added to the original Overwatch since early 2020, fans feel tired and are threatening to give up on the franchise.

Because the release date has been del

ayed so far, fans are expecting that developers will now push for more meaningful content to be put into Overwatch while players are waiting for the sequel to be launched. Early in 2020, developers indicated that no new content would be added prior to Overwatch 2, but that was before these huge delays were announced.

Because Activision Blizzard is teasing more information about Overwatch 2 at BlizzConline, fans are hoping that either more will be added to the game past its repeated and predictable events and challenges that only reward cosmetic in-game items.
