Call of Duty: Warzone’s New Map in the Ural Mountains?

Call of Duty in

Sometime soon, Call of Duty: Warzone is subject for a new map, and a follow-up to Verdansk may take players to the Ural Mountains. Just as the Verdansk map was pieced together last year before officially launching Call of Duty: Warzone, some players believe they’ve cracked the code and uncovered the new Black Ops Cold War map.

If you didn’t know, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, all the landing zones and points of interest on the current Verdansk map in Warzone were first featured in the Ground War and Spec Ops modes. Long before Battle Royale was even out, Verdansk staples such as the stadium and farmland were available in-game, and Black Ops Cold War appears to follow a similar pattern.

Call of Duty: Fireteam

Black Ops Cold War has a vast game mode called Fireteam, which, in squads of four on large maps, pits 40 players against each other. Some players believe that Black Ops Cold War’s Fireteam maps will comprise the new Warzone map, just as Verdansk is made up of Ground War and Spec Ops maps of Modern Warfare. All Fireteam maps are located in the same area: Russia’s Ural Mountains.

This mode uses many of the mechanics of Warzone, such as armor and revival, which is the first indication that we are actually seeing future Warzone locations right now in the Black Ops Cold War.

Fireteam maps are also all perfectly aligned with past leaks that have identified future locations for a potential new Warzone map. Several Fireteam maps have been listed as Warzone drop locations, including Duga and Alpine, leading many to believe this leak is accurate.

Then there’s the final details of the file names of the maps. Each map is referenced in the game files as “wz forest,” “wz ski slope,” and so on, giving further credence to the idea that these are actually Warzone locations.

While, alongside the release of Black Ops Cold War Season One, Rebirth Island was added to the game, Call of Duty: Warzone has yet to receive a truly new map to replace or exist alongside Verdansk.

While this may feel like it’s been around forever, in fact, Call of Duty: Warzone was only launched nine months ago in March, which means we’re coming up on the one year anniversary of the game.

It is rumored that a massive update will be released in March to celebrate the anniversary, and this is likely when the new map drops. Warzone doesn’t go anywhere, and this new map in the Ural Mountains is probably just the first of many major updates to the game in the future.
