Recently, COD: Warzone received a major update that introduced content from Black Ops Cold War into the game, introducing some new weapons and products to the fray, and a significant portion of the player base is disappointed with how the introduction of Black Ops Cold War has been treated.
Although fans have different opinions about the majority of the Black Ops gear, one thing has been accepted by content creators and casual players alike: the DMR 14 needs some drastic changes.
The center of countless discussion posts and YouTube videos has been this semi-automatic marksman rifle, each of the posts lambasting a lack of balance following the latest update. There is little justification for people to use any other weapons, and fans are not satisfied with the current state of the game.
The DMR Problem – COD Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone has had weapons issues before. Just two notable cases are the SP-R 208 marksman rifle and R9-0 shotgun, but it seems that every new season of the game has at least one weapon dominating the meta in a way that makes a large portion of the playerbase dissatisfied.
For instance, there’s a popular Reddit post about DMR : The marksman rifle has both the low time to aim and kill and it is also very precise, allowing it to be a killing weapon in a professional player’s hands.
It has thousands of upvotes stating that Warzone is in an unplayable state with this gun. It’s not uncommon to get downed by someone who’s using this gun before you can even see them with virtually no recoil and an impressively long range.
The weapon has become so common that some fans have actually referred to the game as “DMRZone.”
Of the dozens of new Black Ops Cold War weapons added to the game, DMR 14 is essentially the only one worth using at the moment, with one or two exceptions.
Activision and Treyarch were silent about the problem, continuing to provide both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War playlist of updates and patches, but doing little to address the DMR controversy.
The fans of the game have become increasingly vocal on social media, calling for the overpowered marksman rifle to be nerf and to return to normalcy in the meta of the Warzone.
Is the Nerf coming?
There is currently no announced Warzone DMR nerf, considering the strong outcry against the DMR 14. Activision and Treyarch did not comment on the overpowered tool, for the time being, leaving the concerns of fans unaddressed.
In all probability, in the next Warzone balance patch, the DMR 14 will be nerfed, but there is still no scheduled release date for that update.
A DMR 14 nerf, however, does not fix all the issues of the game right now.
Popular Call of Duty streamer NICKMERCS thinks that once the DMR gets a nerf, the group will simply latch onto another firearm. Black Ops Cold War has a range of tactical semi-automatic rifles, and NICKMERCS has said that if it ever gets nerfed, everybody would only begin using the Type 63, a near match to the DMR 14, in its place.
If this weapon receives any adjustments, only time can tell, but fans are growing restless waiting for a balance fix.
