FaZe Clan leader Marcelo “coldzera” David has revealed that Counter Strike:Global Offensive veteran Olof “olofmeister” Gustafsson will soon step down from tournament play.
FaZe Clan‘s CSGO division has been in a state of flux recently. The departure of Nikola “NiKo” Kovac triggered a number of roster swaps that negatively affected the performance of the team.
Olofmeister recently interrupted CS:GO’s extended break to fill NiKo, but that was not part of his proper return. In an interview with cybersports.ru coldzera, there was no doubt that the olofmeister was done with the FaZe Clan and possibly with the CS:GO for good.
Who is Olofmeister?
Olofmeister is one of the most credible players in Counter Strike:Global Offensive History. Although his name dates back to the original Counter-Strike, he broke out on the global stage during his time with Fnatic, who saw him pack two major CSGO titles at ESL One Katowice 2015 and Cologne 2015. His final few matches may not be as memorable as his past performances, but he has helped FaZe win a number of remarkable tournaments since joining in 2017.
Previously, Olofmeister had taken several breaks in his CS:GO career. However, his 2020 break may be the last. Given how the FaZe Clan has been rumored to be talking to a number of other players, he seems to have done so with the organization.
FaZe Clan to replace olofmeister with new in-game leader
According to coldzera, the team is in search of a new in-game captain, a role that has long been a matter for the FaZe Clan. NiKo’s exit put the FaZe Clan in an awkward position and forced the coldzera to take over the position. It is clear that the Brazilian player does not see the change as a long term affair, and has expressed his desire to play under a skilled leader.
It seems that FaZe is correcting the situation for him. With the likely retirement of Olofmeister, FaZe Clan has an empty spot on his roster to plug a new leader in the game.
Coldzera confirmed that the next CSGO roster swap would see a captain coming in to replace the olofmeister in the foreseeable future. The IGL also acknowledged the constant roster swaps, but suggested that FaZe might already have its newest addition lined up.
The new IGL is expected to be announced by FaZe in March or April. There have been speculations about Finn “karrigan” Andersen joining FaZe as his contract with mousesports is due to expire and he has been talking to a number of Counter Strike:Global Offensive teams.
