The best team we’ve found is the one that basically covers every point and plays more defensively than aggressively, giving you the longevity to last through. - Cons: Low accuracy, useless if moved out of front ranks
- Could be replaced by: Runaway, Hellion
Strategy: Leper is known to be a powerful class in the original Darkest Dungeon, and very little has changed. He has a lot of health, the ability to self-heal both his HP and stress levels, and his melee attacks deal incredibly high damage to two rows of enemies ahead – possibly more than any other class.
Here, the strategy is simple: everyone else keeps Leper alive and active while he destroys the opposition with massive sword strikes. The only downside is that Leper’s skill can lower his accuracy, but his Reflex skill can raise that debug point and by equipping items also fixes this for all your characters you can keep him strong. His tough health also means he can withstand a lot of punishment, so you don’t need to worry about him too much.
- Pros: Excellent tank, can protect others, ability to make sure he can get back to the top if he moves
- Cons: Poor self-healing, need frequent support when rising
- Could be replaced with: Leper, maybe? Honestly, no one else can do exactly what Man-at-Arms does
Darkest Dungeon 2 guide strategy: Man-at-Arms is here to be defeated. He has a lot of health, and his Guardian skill is an important skill that allows him to take damage from other characters for several turns – as well as boost his own defenses simultaneously.
Activate that on any ally about to take down, then use your healing classes to keep him alive and healthy. His Crush skill can deal significant damage to the front three rows and he has many skills to bring him back to the front lines if he gets pushed out of position.
Jester – Darkest Dungeon 2 guide
- Pros: Stress Heal, Manoeuvrability, Bleeds enemies
- Cons: Lacks serious offensive power, attacks force him to keep shuffling about
- Could be replaced by: Grave Robber, Occultist, Highwayman
Strategy: Jester is probably the class you can get the most from swapping around, except for one thing: Stress resilience is a big plus. Considering how bad things tend to go after a character gets Meltdown, being able to prevent that is a huge boost that changes the way the game is played.
With Jesters on your team, you want to keep the two rows behind, focusing on Bleeding and attacking enemies, not to mention playing soothing music to any allies that start to look too tense. If Man-At-Arms or Leper are forced backward and they are unable to help, Jester can dash backward while dealing damage to enemies, forcing the front-tier warriors to advance again.
