The second league of Legends team ranking in 2021 is here and a lot of things have changed in the last two weeks. Defending world champion DWG KIA is still at the top of the ranking, but several LPL teams are closing in.
The same goes for Gen.G, who has outperformed Cloud9 and is now ranked second best in the world according to rankings. In addition, other new teams have crawled their way to the top 10 and are looking to climb even further.
DWG KIA still the best team in the world
DWG KIA is still in the top ranking of the LoL team. Korea’s top team has started the season well and is currently at the top of the LCK. The team had a slight slip up against Fredit BRION, it just wasn’t enough for the other teams to dethrone them.
Regardless of changes to the top lane for the 2021 LoL season, DWG KIA still looks like the top contender to win the LCK. Defending the 2020 Summer Split Trophy will once again solidify DWG KIA as the best team in the world, but there’s still a long way to go. Until then, DWG KIA will have to keep up the momentum to keep its top spot.
Top Esports, FunPlus Phoenix fighting for top three
The Chinese LPL teams are still heavily represented in the top 10, but are still set to break into the top three. Both Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix are struggling to surpass G2 Esports to reach the top three, and they’ve quickly bridged the gap.
Both LPL giants are on a great winning streak and are improving from game to game. Top Esports has the edge, however, mainly because of its performance during 2020 when the mid laner Zhuo “knight” Ding and the rest of the squad outperformed the FPX.
The two teams will compete on February 6, which could have a major impact on their rankings.
Team Liquid climbing up the rankings after LCS Lock In
LCS was highly represented in the first ranking of 2021, but this week’s ranking is only LCS Lock Finalists ranked in the top 10. With Evil Geniuses and TSM out of the top 10, Team Liquid and Cloud9 remain the only North American teams.
Team Liquid outperformed Cloud9 in the rankings after winning the LCS Lock In, and rightly so. Team Liquid took C9 down in the finals in a five game thriller, making it the strongest team in the LCS.
It’s hard to tell whether Team Liquid is going to climb further, as it requires them to continue their momentum as the 2021 LCS Spring Season kicks off. If not, there are a lot of strong teams behind them to take the sixth place in the ranking.
