DWG KIA secured a spot at the 2021 LCK Spring playoffs

2021 LCK Spring

Defending World Champion DWG KIA is locked into the 2021 LCK Spring Split playoffs after securing a spot.

After another unbeatable week for DWG KIA, the team is now on a nine-game winning streak and is starting to add some distance from the rest of the 2021 LCK field. With an 11-1 record, DWG is already locked in for the playoffs, despite having four weeks of regular split left.

DWG KIA still has a total of six best of three series to go, but now they can play without the worry of missing the playoffs. The world champions are still struggling hard to keep the first seed, which seems likely to be in their present form.

DWG KIA has topped the 2021 LCK charts

It doesn’t sound surprising that DWG KIA has topped the LCK charts, but playing a close to flawless split is still impressive.

In the run up to the 2021 LCK Spring season, the competition in South Korea seemed to be tougher than last year, but DWG KIA keeps cruising through opponents. With only just a few slip ups, DWG scored 22-7 in games, with fewer losses than any other team.

DWG KIA has had a total of 4 series going to three games so far in 2021 and only one game losing this split, almost all of them against prominent teams. The teams that have won the World Championship are T1, Fredit BRION,Gen.G, KT Rolster and Hanwha Life.

All teams are currently hunting for a playoff spot and may be potential opponents of DWG down the road, except for Fredit BRION, who is struggling near the bottom of the standings.

Fredit BRION is the only team to defeat DWG KIA 2021

After a dominant run at the 2020 World Championship, followed by a near sweep of the 2020 KeSPA Cup, DWG KIA continues to dominate in 2021. In fact, DWG only lost a single series in 2021, and it’s a very unexpected one.

The only team to beat DWG in the best of three this year is Fredit BRION. Fredit BRION’s win is likely to be remembered as one of the biggest upheavals of 2021, and for good reason. The  team won 2-0, catching DWG on a really bad day.

Since then, Fredit BRION has not been able to keep up with the momentum and is stuck in ninth place with a 3-8 record. The lesson to be learned from the series is that DWG isn’t unbeatable, but it takes a lot to win. When the playoffs start, it’ll be even harder in the best of five format.

DWG KIA will play its next game against Afreeca Freecs on March 6. If the star-packed team manages to maintain this dominance, this split could be even more dominant than its 2020 LCK Summer Split.
