Entering the fray is the indie game Fae Tactics, developed by Endlessfluff Games. With a hand-drawn isometric style, it visually recalls PS1 classics like the aforementioned FF Tactics or perhaps the Legend of Mana; However, its familiar looks suggest an innovative, intricate strategy RPG that fans of the genre won’t want to miss. But if you’re new to the genre or new to this particular game, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind to make sure you don’t get hit.
Pickups – Fae Tactics
You use powerful fae summons to gain an advantage over your opponents. You find more fae to join your party by defeating them in battle and picking up the cards they drop after the the fight. (That’s right, it’s not just a great strategy game – you could add it to your list of great card-based games, too.)
However, when you win a battle, any pick-ups left on the ground will not automatically be added to your inventory, so make sure to grab any cards you see before delivering the final blow.
Manage Time Wisely
Fae Tactics is a game with tons of side paths, side quests, and optional content, which is great if you want to explore its vast world, however, your time is not infinite.
Similar to Persona 5, completing quests increases the game clock, and if you’re on a quest for too long, it may not be completed. Like Persona 5, this is a trap you’ll want to avoid. That’s a boon for multiple playthroughs, but if you’re on your first round, make sure you prioritize the quests you really want to complete.
Don’t Let Allies Die – Fae Tactics
Throughout the game, you’ll participate in quests that include named NPCs. This can be a prisoner in a dungeon with you or a specific boss enemy. It’s in your best interest not to let these characters die if you can help it.
As mentioned before, this is a game with a multitude of different paths, and characters named like this can often lead to specific rewards or new story content. Your choices here really have an impact on how the story plays out – a game-changing feature if at all.
Upgrade Summon Capacity
One of the systems that you really want to master is the game’s upgrade system. Throughout Fae Tactics, you’ll be able to upgrade various stats and abilities, and depending on what you prioritize, you can set yourself up for a quick win or put your whole party in the crate trash.
Your summoning ability is especially important; as you level up you can bring more allies into the battlefield or summon stronger faes which can make a huge difference.
Learn To Cook – Fae Tactics
The game includes a short pre-battle cooking minigame that you can use to boost your stats. This comes in handy if you’re participating in a boss battle, so make sure you’re familiar with the system. However, it’s not as detailed as the cooking system in other games; Here it is basically a mini matching game where you guess the different ingredients.
It’s more random than others, so you won’t be able to rely on it alone – use it in tandem with the game’s other systems instead.
