While gameplay plays a vital role in the success of a game title, it is not the only variable in the equation. Availability enables games to reach broader audiences, and from the beginning, Fortnite simply struck gold.
The system requirements of the game were easily matched by lower-tier PCs, turning it into a sensation quickly.
When it came to introducing the game to other platforms, such as consoles and mobile devices, Epic Games was also fast, making it accessible to almost everyone.
Mac machines are mostly known as productivity machines, but all gamers will generally question whether their Macs can handle some extent of gaming.
Macs don’t have any problems running indie titles, but Fortnite can look like a stretch since you’re basically playing with 99 other players, effectively increasing the graphics you’re going to need to render.
Fortnite was well optimized for MacOS, though, which means you’re going to have a decent gaming experience. It would be unfair to expect a gaming PC level performance, but you’re still going to be able to get some smooth frame rates.
Here’s how you’re going to play Fortnite on your Mac.
Download the launcher of the Epic Games – Fortnite
Unlike other hit games like Among Us, Fortnite is highly optimized for MacOS. Epic also grouped everything inside a simple installer, so if you’ve previously downloaded Fortnite to your PC, the procedure should be familiar and easy.
Go to Fortnite’s website and select the yellow “Download” button at the top right corner of the page. When you click the “Download” button, you’ll be asked which platform you’d like to play. To proceed, select “PC/Mac”
Click on the “Sign In” button, and you will be asked to log in with your details. If you do not have an Epic account, you can start creating one by clicking on the “Sign Up” option.
After entering your details, you will be navigated to the download page, and the.dmg file for the Epic Games Launcher should start to be downloaded automatically.
If it doesn’t download instantly, you can choose the Mac icon on the list and start the download process yourself.
Run the Epic Installer.dmg file and move the Epic Games Launcher icon to the App folder to finish the setup process.
Open the Epic Games launcher and let it finish the upgrade process. Epic Games launcher should start on its own after an update process, and you’ll need to navigate to “Library” to download Fortnite.
If this is the first time you have installed Fortnite on your Epic account, you will need to open “Store” and search for “Fortnite” to add it to your library.
Click the “Install” button below the Fortnite button and start downloading the game.
You’ll be able to launch Fortnite without any problems when the Epic Games launcher prompts you with a pop-up that says the game is ready to play.
Although Fortnite does its best to adjust your settings to your devices, we still recommend that you take a look at your graphics settings.
Setting them to lower values will dramatically increase your frames per second, and even some of the most competitive players prefer to keep everything low because it helps them to distinguish enemies faster.
Make sure your hardware is capable of running Fortnite since you’re not going to have a good gaming experience with a Mac that doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements.
