Genshin Impact: What is Elemental Mastery?

Elemental Mastery

In this guide, we’ll explain in Genshin Impact what “Elemental Mastery” is, how it works, and which characters you should build on. Elemental reactions are one of the core mechanics of the combat system of Genshin Impact, and a stat called “ElementalMastery” is one way to increase reaction damage.

Elemental Mastery

It is important to understand how the game’s ElementalMastery works so that you know exactly which characters you should build on and who should activate the reaction.

What is Elemental Mastery in Genshin Impact?

The stat attribute of ElementalMastery (EM) increases the damage of Elemental Reactions such as Vaporize, Melt, or Overload.

Once triggered, the higher your ElementalMastery, the more damage elemental reactions will do.  It is just a multiplier that increases a certain percentage of the reaction damage.

You can check how much bonus damage each reaction is caused by your present ElementalMastery. Just go to the Attribute Details page of your character.

The character stat attributes Genshin Impact 1 elementalmastery. Sucrose’s EM is 376 in this screenshot below, which in turn increases the Overloaded, Superconduct, Electro-Charged, Shattered and Swirl damage by 141 percent.

In the meantime, the damage caused by Vaporize and Melt reactions is 58.9% higher.

Here’s a list and effects of all the Elemental Reactions in the game. Also, check this in-depth Reddit post for more math and graphs on how to calculate EM damage.

Note that from single elemental attacks alone, Elemental Mastery does not increase damage. You may want to look at effects like “Elemental DMG Bonus” or “Pyro/Anemo/etc” for this.

Finally, since EM is only a multiplier, you should concentrate first on having decent ATK stats and a high level of character, as these directly affect the basic damage of your elemental reactions.

If your base elemental reaction damage is low, having extremely high amounts of Elemental Mastery won’t mean anything!

How to Increase Elemental Mastery

Artifacts with stats

Artifacts that provide Elemental Mastery as either a main stat or as a sub stat are the easiest way to build on Elemental Mastery. Elemental Mastery sources are also great sources for the Artifact sets Instructor and Wanderer’s Troupe.

Weapons with stats

Weapons can also provide you with Elemental Mastery bonus as the main status, aside from Artifacts. An example is The Stringless, a 4-star bow that is perfect for the build of a Fischl support/enabler. Elemental Mastery is also provided by Mappa Mare, a craftable Catalyst weapon, as its secondary stat.

Characters that give Elemental Mastery with passive abilities

As we mentioned, if you want to deal with huge amounts of reaction damage and elemental combos, Sucrose is one of the best support characters that you should add to your team comp.

Elemental Mastery

Sucrose swirl damage mastery of elementary reaction Genshin Impact. Sucrose has two passive talents that help to build the EM of your team:

Conversion from Catalyst increases the EM of your team by 50 whenever Sucrose triggers Swirl.

Casting Sucrose’s Skill or Burst with Mollis Favonius increases the EM of the entire team by 20% of Sucrose’s EM.
