The aftermath of the item rework of Season 11 of the League of Legends is still being ironed out. One myth, however, has risen to the top is the Moonstone Renewer.
The myth of “support” is selected across multiple lanes, dominating the goal.
In League Season 11, there were a number of “broken” items highlighted. However, one has flown under the radar. Moonstone Renewer was shunned as one of the worst Mythics in League of Legends by the community on release. Two months on, however, and it has risen firmly to the top of the power rankings.
It’s not just a popular casual game either. Pros are building it on its intended location, more than just aids. Instead of Night Harvester, Riftmaker, or other AP picks, Nidalee’s, Lillia’s, solo lane, Karma’s all take Moonstone Renewer. Why would this be the case?
Well, it’s because it’s one of the most efficient gold items in the game, with amazing boot utility.
What is Moonstone Renewer, and why is it strong?
In League of Legends, Moonstone Renewer is a support Mythic. You get 40 ability Power, 20 ability Haste, 200 Health, and some Mana Regeneration for 2,500 gold. In Starlit Grace, you also get access to one of the most powerful passives in the game.
The lowest health ally is healed by affecting champions with attacks or combat skills, including crowd control and shields. This is a two-second cooldown, and the effectiveness of the healing increases every second in combat, up to 50 percent.
This means that you can heal your allies over the course of a fight for up to 2,000 damage, which is more than most enchanters can do anyway.
Moonstone Renewer itself is a powerful item. However, it can become even better in combination with some of the new support from Legendaries.
It works perfectly with both the Flowing Water Staff for bonus AP and movement speed, and the Ardent Censor for attack speed. Plus, both of these items are built from the Forbidden Idol, increasing the power of healing.
It also provides a very powerful two-item power spike for supporters and other Moonstone users. You get 100 AP minimum for only 4,800 gold, a ton of Ability Haste, mana regen, a high heal, and a buff for either your casters or your auto attackers.
These powerful numbers also mean that if you build it on solo laners, you don’t lose too much damage, and you can still trade effectively without feeling too vulnerable. While it finds its full power in teamfights, with the build, you’re not useless in sidelane.
Item Haste can also lower its short cooldown on runes such as Ingenious Hunter (Domination) and Cosmic Insight (Inspiration). While it might be a 10 percent to 25 percent reduction, over the course of a fight, it does add up.
Where should you build ?
Karma, Sona, and Seraphine see the most value out of it, but it is not limited to that position, it’s powerful on enchanter supports.
Mid-laners like Orianna are able to make it. On Senna in AD Carry or Support, you can build it. It’s the best slot for Nidalee and Lillia, two of the most powerful junglers in the game right now. It can be used effectively by Solo lane Karma as well as by Singed, Teemo, and more. The Moonstone Renewer can be built by almost any AP champion, and it’s good.
If you have a damage over time ability, it’s even better. However, you can opt to build a Demonic Embrace if you don’t have one built into your champion’s kit. Not only will it shred enemies in combat, but it will make sure you can easily obtain multiple Moonstone Renewer procs.
With the kick off of League Season 11, there’s almost no reason not to abuse Moonstone Renewer. In League patch 11.2, which goes live on January 21, it’s not currently on Riot’s list of nerf.
