Drive: Soul Eater

Soul Eater allows Ragna the Bloodedge to absorb a portion of certain attacks’ damage into her own health. This mechanism compensates for Ragna’s low starting health. Soul Eater works regardless of being hit or blocked, but not against Barrier Guard. The Soul Eater has another mechanism where different percentages are applied to the Soul Eater’s different moves depending on its position in the combo.

More specifically, the amount of lifesteal increases depending on the number of Soul Eater’s attacks landed on the opponent before using the ability. The formula is as follows:

  • 1st to 5th Soul Eater hit = 100% lifesteal
  • 6th Soul Eater hit = 110% lifesteal
  • 7th Soul Eater hit = 120% lifesteal
  • 8th Soul Eater hit = 130% lifesteal
  • 9th Soul Eater hit = 140% lifesteal
  • 10th Soul Eater hit = 150% lifesteal

The rate remains at 150% for any Soul Eater hit after day 10.

Overdrive: Blood Kain IDEA

Ragna’s Overdrive enhances all of Soul Eater’s moves. All Soul Eater’s moves not only have higher damage and take more lives from the opponent, but some also have different movement attributes and different attack boxes.

Drive Moves of Ragna the Bloodedge

Ragna the Bloodedge
  • 5D: A major combined move is very important. 5D is used in most of the combos in Ragna’s arsenal, but apart from this, the 5D doesn’t have many other uses. The move is somewhat safe compared to previous iterations because the move is highly responsive, so if used at the end of a match or at certain distances you should be able to block the most punitive blows, despite the poor frame advantage.
  • 2D: As footsie, the 2D range is second only to 5C, but its practicality applies only to certain situations. The gearbox doesn’t extend past the win-win box, so against long-acting framed deformation Drives, you can use 2D for a matching, free-match. The move is also very safe at a precise distance setting, so it works like a good finishing move. Chaining into this move from normal level 4 or less leaves space on the normal block, so be careful when making this move at close range.
  • 6D: While only reversible for j.D, 6D serves as one of Ragna’s more vague matching options. The j.D’s special features allow for some game of wits to make, especially its ability to recover from extremely short landing. Heading, lowering, and throwing can be done from 6D, but it is sometimes difficult to execute it consistently.
  • j.D: j.D is one of Ragna’s aerial combos, as the high hitstun allows for more flexibility later in the mix. The ability’s lifesteal is also useful for gaining a bit of life force and increasing the Soul Eater’s rate.
