In Monster Hunter Rise, you use various armor sets and weapons to take down massive monsters. However, you won’t just rely on your gear stats to give you an edge in combat. Each piece of armor comes with unique armor skills to enhance your hunter’s talents in different ways. To become the strongest hunter possible, you need to maximize the skills of this armor to confront the toughest creatures.
About Armor Skills – Monster Hunter Rise
Each armor in Monster Hunter Rise has some quality. There are obvious stats like defense and elemental resistance, but each piece of armor also has armor crafting skills. Each device in the game has abilities built into them, yielding different talents when they are equipped.
Armor skills are of two types. There are armor skills that automatically grant abilities you wouldn’t normally have, such as the Carving Pro armor skill, which keeps you from getting knocked down when carving. Then there are armor skills that increase in effectiveness through many levels.
For example, the Geologist armor skill allows you to earn an extra piece of ore from a collection point for each level you upgrade the skill. In fact, the maximum Geology armor skill is an important part of our recommended zenny farming technique.
While it’s easy to find a piece of armor that instantly grants a single leveled skill, figuring out how to level up armor skills with multiple levels takes a few steps.
Upgrade Armor Skills
There are two ways to upgrade armor skills in Monster Hunter Rise: You can wear multiple pieces of armor with the desired armor skill, or you can create and place decorations.
Mixing And Matching Armor
Mixing and matching armor is a viable way to max out your armor skills if you don’t mind looking weird.
To identify armor with a specific ability, you can search for every piece of armor that has it at the Forge. To search for armor skills, press the Y button to access the submenu while viewing Smithy’s armor selection. Then select Search/Sort > Skills, and then select the armor skill you’re looking for.
With the selected skill selected, each piece of armor will receive a yellow exclamation mark next to it. You can then preview each piece of armor to see what it will look like by pressing the X Button to Toggle Preview on each piece of your armor with the skill. With all the armors previewed, press the L and R Buttons until you go to page 5 of the Equip Info tab on the right. You will see a list of all the skills this armor has to offer.
While you can max out skills this way, you could end up with an outfit that looks problematic.
Monster Hunter Rise – Decorations
Another way to upgrade armor skills is to create and place decorations.
After unlocking High Rated gear, you can create and wear decorations in your armor and some of your weapons. Ornaments are gems you can insert into your gear to boost various armor skills.
Ornaments and decorative slots in armor come in three levels (1, 2, and 3). Decorator slots can only accept decorations at their level or any level below them. For example, a Lv. 1 decorative slot in a piece of armor can only get Lv. 1 ornament. However, a Lv. 3 trim slots can accept decorations at all levels.
To start crafting decorations, go to the Forge and choose Ornaments > Create Ornaments.
Each decorator in Monster Hunter Rise has different skills associated with them, as well as crafting materials and zenny costs. Ornaments also require one of two ingredients: Bloodrun Jewels or Aquaflow Jewels, which will reward you with High Rank hunts.
