Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD is a beautifully updated version of the original 2005 game. Stranger’s Wrath HD is the beloved first- and third-person action-adventure, cult and adds a shiny coat of paint, making it look like what you remember from 2005. It is a lovely crafting update of a game that is quirky and weird, yet offers plenty of fun and depth.

Darned Critters And Vermin
Even if you haven’t played Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD or its 2005 original, you’ve at least seen the weird crossbow gun Stranger uses in the game. Instead of using traditional guns and weapons, Stranger uses a literal creature crossbow to shoot out many living creatures and bugs.
Implications aside, it’s a crazy idea that really works wonders in an adventure game like this. To get more critter ammo, you have to find their lair. You can see most of the different creatures foraging around the fields, caves, and towns you explore. While there are occasional critter cartridges, you need to spend a good amount of time searching for their lair to stock up. Plus, each creature is used for different actions and situations.
Lay Out Plan Of Action – Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath
This game hides quite a lot of depth and strategy, more than you might initially think when jumping into the game. While the game is easily playable in first-person and third-person, you really need to think and consider how you approach each new area, especially those with a lot of baddies tricky.
Simply put, the best way to succeed in this game is to put a plan for your actions. When you first enter a larger area, it usually contains loads of enemies. These enemies can be killed or captured depending on how you continue the game. If you catch an enemy then you can spend more now to spend later. If you use certain creatures to kill your enemies, that will make for an easier experience, but you get much less money especially when it comes to big boss-type characters. Experimentation is key with this game and getting to know each creature.
Upgrades Aplenty
The name of the game in Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD is hunting for various bonuses. Bonuses are everything in this game and they ensure Stranger has plenty of money coming his way. One side note is that each bounty you collect or kill will help the citizens of that area feel safer and more at peace, which is directly related to the whole story.
Once you start spinning a bunch of bonuses at the bonus shop, you’ll start to accumulate a lot of money. You can use the money to buy ammo, upgrade your critter ammo packs, upgrade the Stranger, and even buy items like binoculars to help you land when you reach a new area. Don’t worry, you will get a lot of money in this game as it is a mostly linear thing that encourages you to take each and every bonus.
Exploration – Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath
Despite being a fairly linear game, narratively at least, there’s plenty of exploration to engage in, typically rewarding you with chests. Exploration here includes rope climbing, caving, swimming in waterholes, and even opening breakable doors. The game has a surprising amount of verticality so keep an eye out for areas within easy reach.
The bonuses you get are usually in a spacious area with several indoor units. After taking out the main bounty and the smaller minion bonus, you are free to explore the area before heading back to town. Take your time to stop and smell the roses in this game to get the most out of Stranger’s adventures.
