After previous teases and leaks, Riot Games has officially announced that a League of Legends MMORPG game is underway.
The official page on the League of Legends website indicates that the publisher is looking to hire game developers to work on the MMORPG. These kinds of games are a major task, Riot admitted, meaning that the company is looking for more employees to “gear up for the journey.” These include gameplay engineers, game designers, UX designers, game artists and production professionals.
Riot wants developers with experience on MMO
Riot stated that it wants developers with direct experience working on MMOs. Riot’s leading game designer Greg Street confirmed the upcoming MMO on Twitter back in December. He stated that the MMO would take place in Runeterra, further expanding the League of Legends universe.
“My new task is to kick off a big, some might say huge, game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to develop,” Street said. While playing coy at first, he confirmed that it was an MMO almost immediately after a fan asked him if it was going to be an MMO game.
Riot Games Project F – League of Legends MMORPG
At that time, fans had been speculating about the MMORPG for about a year. The League of Legends developers teased a lot of upcoming titles during the Riot Games‘ 10-year celebration in 2019.
This included games that would eventually become Valorant and League of Legends: Wild Rift, a still to be revealed fighting game, and then something called “Project F.” Riot Games Project F was the least-talked-about project in the event. Only a short clip was shared, but based on that clip, fans were already confident that it would be a footage based MMO.
So far, Riot has revealed nothing more about the MMORPG. It is most likely that this will not happen in the near future, as Riot is in the early stages of the hiring process for this project. The League of Legends community will have to wait to find out what the story is going to be and what the game is going to be like.
Fans are most likely to dig through League of Legend to figure out what to expect in what is likely to be a highly anticipated game.
