Redfall is Arkane Studios’ follow-up game after last year’s Deathloop. Limited to PC and Xbox Series X, the game, announced during the Xbox and Bethesda showcase at E3 2021, promises to be an open-world co-op FPS. This is exciting, both with the Arkane prequel, and the fact that this feels like something completely new to the developer.
Redfall release date
The game is set to launch in the summer of 2022 on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass. As with many games, it is possible that its release will be delayed, especially since so many developers are already working from home.
While assuming it lands next year, 2022 is predicted to be a huge year for games, especially for multiplayer services like this one. Let’s keep crossing our fingers to reach the targeted date.
Since there’s still a short amount of time left, pre-orders aren’t live yet, but it’s likely they’ll open as the release date gets closer. However, you can sign up for updates by joining Arkane Outsider, and doing so will give you a nifty digital art book.
Charismatic cast of characters – Redfall
Arkane seems to lean more towards characters than ever before. In it, you can choose from four vampire hunters, all with distinct looks, actions, and (hopefully) play. The four playable characters are Jacob Boyer, Layla Ellison, Devinder Crousely, and Remi de la Rosa.
The paranormal investigator, Devinder Crousely, has finally made a name for himself now that he can put his inventions to good use. The stakes are particularly high for Crousely, as he wants to get out of Redfall alive to prove himself to the world.
Layla Ellison will likely be a blast to play with, especially with her mysterious sci-fi powers. How she got those powers is still unknown but we’ll probably find out in the making.
The outstanding Ex-military sharpshooter, Jacob Boyer, has what Bethesda calls “superhuman precision,” allowing him to track his prey from the shadows. Boyer will probably be an ideal character for those who like ranged weapons.
The city of Redfall is filled with vampires, although they may not be what you expect. The vampires are very similar to the aggressive zombies that appear in games like Left 4 Dead and Dying Light.
There will also be other types of enemies besides the deadly Angler, but we’ll have to wait and see more from the game’s list of enemies. One thing is clear – vampires aren’t the only enemies we’ll be up against, as the “cult of humans” will also stand in your way as you try to stay alive.
Emphasis on co-op – Redfall
Arkane has traditionally made a name for itself with great single-player adventures that combine environmental storytelling with engaging gameplay design. And while both of those aspects will likely show up, this project is unlike anything the studio has worked on before, especially due to its emphasis on cooperative gameplay.
Sure, you can play solo, but it’s designed with a four-player co-op in mind, allowing you to choose from among a wide variety of vampire hunters. Each character will have their own unique abilities, weapons, and personality, which can make for some interesting experiences.
Bethesda has stated that the game will “merge the single-player and multiplayer options seamlessly”, although it’s unknown if playing alone will put players at a disadvantage as in some games. Still, it was proof that Arkane wasn’t afraid to venture into unfamiliar territory.
