Saints Row release date and everything we want to share

It’s been six years since Saints Row: Gat out of Hell came out, and the developers feel like now is the perfect time to reboot the series. Officially launched at Gamescom 2021, the original reboot was poorly received by longtime fans for its deviation from the original material. The original characters have been re-imagined, the story establishes the group’s beginnings, and the group’s colors temporarily change from purple to blue. 

Release Date

The Saints Row will release in August 23, 2022. Volition and Deep Silver announced the postponement of the originally scheduled release date of February 25, 2022, via Twitter. In the statement, Volition creative director Jim Boone said, “the team just needed more time to do justice to our vision; We’re making some tweaks and there won’t be much to change in the game beyond the overall quality and polish.”

Saints Row Setting

The setting for the new game is the fictional city of Santo Ileso, located in the American Southwest. The inner city is divided into nine unique districts, each representing a different theme and culture. The trailer mainly focuses on the desert areas on the outskirts of Santo Ileso, but the main game is set to include the harbor, golf course, and more.

Saints Row Story

The three founding members of the Saints gang in the reboot are Kevin, the party DJ, Neenah, a mechanic with knowledge of art history and anthropology, and Eli, the leader of the group. Kevin and Neenah were members of rival gangs before forming their own group. To pay off their student debt, the characters join forces to start a criminal empire.

Santo Ileso is no stranger to crime, with three prominent gangs: Idols, Marshalls, and Los Panteros. Idols crave popularity and they will do anything to be seen and heard – they wear robot masks and brightly colored clothes to make themselves stand out. The Marshalls are an international business that operates like a gang; they use advanced technology to eliminate their target. In the end, Los Panteros is the most traditional of them all, prioritizing power and melee weapons above all else.

Once the Saints are up and running, the player can purchase properties in any area to establish new bases across the city. The developers used Breaking Bad’s Gus Fring as an example: build your own fried chicken empire, which secretly contains loads of drugs. Buying properties is a great way to expand your team while also making more money. You don’t need to buy drugs and fast food, other examples include car stores, weapons dealers, and hazardous waste dumps.

Returning Characters

The developers confirmed in a Twitch stream shortly after the reveal that none of the original characters will appear in the reboot. The three new characters share similarities with the original founders: Johnny Gat, Shaundi, and Pierce, respectively. While this has not been confirmed, it appears that these new characters were created using aspects of several characters throughout the series.

Saints Row Co-op

The game supports drop-in and drop-out co-op no matter where you are in the game. Volition executive producer Rob Loftus confirmed to Polygon that every mission in the game is a co-op mission. Volition also revealed that the game supports cross-generation multiplayer, although this does not apply to PC players. It also doesn’t support cross-platform multiplayer, so PC players won’t be able to join friends on their consoles.
