A new Dota 2 squad in Southeast Asia has emerged from the ashes of the previous squads. The organization announced today that Team SMG has established its Dota division around Michael “ninjaboogie” Ross Jr. and Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung.
With the hope of making it into the Upper Division of the regional league, the new SEA team will participate in upcoming qualifiers for the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit. And the team looks like a formidable addition to the field of competition with a roster containing both accomplished veterans and younger talents.
Team SMG Dota 2
This decision comes as part of the move made by JJ Lin, a big fan of Dota 2, the Singaporean singer and founder of Still Moving under Gunfire (SMG).
Dota 2 is a game that I’ve had a passion for since I was a kid,’ said JJ Lin. Today, by announcing the Team SMG Dota 2 division, we will finally bring it to the professional level, game on! ”
SMG originally concentrated on Arena of Valor, but since then the team has expanded into PUBG, Mobile Legends, and now Dota.
Mushi is a legendary player for the team itself, but has spent the better part of the last two years bouncing between teams. This will be an opportunity for him to have, alongside other strong players, a stable team environment.
Ninjaboogie is in a similar boat, having left Mineski from August to November after their deep run at The International 2019 and failing to find a new place to play outside of a short stint with 032. He and Mushi have played together before and in the upcoming qualifiers they may have a strong showing.
In late 2018, Cheng “vtFαded” Jia Hao showed promise with Geek Fam, but has played for seven different teams since then. He last played alongside Mushi for IO, who is taking him on this new venture with him.
