Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a turn-based tactical RPG based on the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. As you might expect, this means there’s a lot of intersection between the two in terms of mechanics, whether in terms of spellcasting or skill checking. But that doesn’t mean Solasta is identical, and the game still has some problems for you to overcome if you want to build a successful expedition party.

Although initially unclear, Solasta has a containment system where a character’s speed is affected by the amount they carry. It can be tempting to drag a Skyrim and automatically collect everything that isn’t crucified, but if you do this, those items will go to the first character in the party. Make sure to balance your loot and gear between your party to avoid any migration issues. Don’t forget that you can also store items in bottomless boxes by the scavengers.

Curious why you keep missing in battle? Light is probably the answer. Being able to see each character well is an important part of Solasta’s combat, especially when it comes to using ranged weapons. Consider carrying a torch or casting a light spell for a better chance of hitting. Be forewarned, though, the light works both ways and enemies will also be able to hit back. Consider using a spell such as dark vision — a great way to gain a small personal advantage in low-light areas.
Golden Opportunity – Solasta: Crown of the Magister
As with many turn-based strategy games, Solasta has opportunistic attacks that trigger when a character tries to leave the battle. But sometimes you need to leave the fight, you know, not die. This move option allows you to safely exit the battle and avoid opportunistic attacks by enemies as you move through them.
Rogue is the best class for this and can retreat at the end of each attack, making these characters great for attacking and running stealth attacks. When you bring a character into melee, you always need to be aware of the difficulties involved in getting them out again.
Spells are extremely useful in Solasta: Crown of the Magister, so you need to keep in mind a few small rules regarding their use. Firstly, a lot of spells can only be cast with an open hand, so if you’re wondering why you can’t cast some spells, it’s probably because both hands are equipped fully.
Magic can also be used for more than just blowing up enemies. Just like in D&D, magic is not something only used in combat and has all sorts of functions. Spotting spells are useful for determining magical attributes in gear, while spells like Feather Fall essentially prevent any character from taking damage when falling. However, spells require slots to use and should be prepared when camping. Low-level spells can also be used with higher-level slots to increase potency.
