There aren’t huge differences between this new incarnation of Harvest Moon and its predecessors, but there are certainly some well-meaning improvements that make things less of a problem. For example, the player can go through vine plots with trellises (like tomatoes and cucumbers), your closet can hold 999 item units. But for new players, it can be a bit confusing at first, especially if this is your first Harvest Moon game. So here are some Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town tips to get you through the early stages.
One Bag Of Seeds
One bag of seeds will cover the 3×3 tilled soil – that is, you need to prepare 9 tilled plots before you start sowing the seeds. On my first spring, I went to buy 9 bags of cucumber seeds, thinking 1 bag represented a single seed per brick. (Additional tip: if you get a Joycon drift, use extreme care when aligning the seeding area for the 9 tilled plots).
Air Hits – Story Of Seasons
Smashing rocks in a cave can age very quickly, especially when nothing else is going on but hammer and pickaxe. Half the time, most people just spam the actions without really paying attention – a mistake that will leave you completely confused in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. “Air hits” that miss the target slot consume stamina. If you use the wrong tool for a task, that also consumes your stamina.
Get Nature Sprites
Kindness, you don’t have to complete quests to reach your favorite contracted helpers – You can find Mineral Town’s natural mascots in a hut behind the house worship, living their best Seven Dwarfs in color-coordinated elves.
All you have to do is bring presents – most of them love honey and fruit – to become friends. Once you’re friends, you can ask them to do household chores for you, such as watering your plants or taking care of your animals. If you are determined to help natural humans improve their housework, play with them to upgrade them.
Plan Tool Upgrades – Story Of Seasons
In addition to earning ores to upgrade, you need to use your tools to upgrade them. Normally, if you only upgrade the tool by one level, Saibara will take all day to upgrade your tool: if you bring the ax to him on Monday, it won’t be ready until Wednesday.
Like previous Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, the Forge will close while he is working. If you’re upgrading a tool by multiple levels, Saibara will need more time, which means you won’t be able to access Forge for several days. The good news is he’s open on weekends. Pro tip: put lots of wild plants on watering duty while you’re upgrading your watering can.
Upgrade House – Story Of Seasons
If you are interested in the cooking aspect of the farm sim, upgrade your house as soon as possible to have a kitchen and fridge, only then you can store food at home. Yes, you must purchase your own refrigerator. No, you cannot keep food in the cupboard. Cooking also requires equipment, which you can get at the in-game General Store.
