Styx: Shards of Darkness Guide – Leveling The Best Skills

Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness

There are many skills to master in Styx: Shards of Darkness, as you traverse a treacherous path rife with tough enemies seeking to put an end to the goblin race. Each skill is divided into different skill trees, including Perception, Clone, Alchemy, Killing, and Invisibility tree.

Predation – Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness

Another useful addition to the list of skills in Shards of Darkness is Predation, due to its sly nature and quick execution. If Styx is hiding inside a chest or cupboard, he can instantly kill passing enemies with a single tap. When using this ability, Styx will appear while hiding and can be seen by other enemies in the vicinity. The best way to use this skill is to patiently wait for an enemy to approach before attacking.

The downside of acquiring this skill is that it takes a long time to acquire it. For the most part, it’s a late-game skill. In the end, you’ll spend over 500 skill points just to get Predation and then spend another 240 to get it. The route that we recommend you to take is to buy the Flying Killer, Pilfering, and Elite Thrower skills before buying Predation. We didn’t find many uses from skills located on the right side of the Kill tree.

Styx can cloak himself and temporarily increase his invisibility. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of amber on deck. Luckily for us, there’s the Persistence skill, which reduces the amount of amber needed when invisibility by increasing its duration. We can’t tell you how many times we were invisible, only visible by chance amidst a large group of guards patrolling the corridors…until we discovered the skill Kien maintain.

When you’re ready to add more skills to the Stealth tree in Styx: Shards of Darkness, we recommend checking out the Cat skill that allows you to silently take down enemies and avoid alerting nearby guards. It’s best to use Feline when you’re looking for a shortcut to downstairs. In addition, Styx will take reduced damage when falling from a height. This will help fight cravings for a potion after a big drop.

Amber Distiller – Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness

The Amber Distiller skill goes hand in hand with the Persistence skill, located in the center of the Alchemy skill tree, Amber Distiller allows you to craft your own amber potions to replenish energy. In return, you can continue to use magical abilities like invisibility and cloning. There are many amber jars throughout each level, so be sure to take your time looking around carefully.

To get the most out of this skill, we recommend choosing the Thief’s Senses skill from the Perception skill tree. With Thief’s Senses, you can sense nearby items up to 5m away. These items are often hard to find as they are carefully placed by the developers at each level. Don’t be afraid to constantly use up your amber jars to regain MP, as you will continuously discover more and more jars thanks to this new skill.

Extended Vision

Styx: Shards of Darkness

The most important skill in Styx: Shards of Darkness is Extended Vision, located inside the Perception skill tree. With Extended Sight activated, Styx can use her amber vision to sniff out items and enemies from longer distances, enemies, items, and interactive objects will be highlighted in red.

We’re not sure how someone can survive an entire level without leveling up this skill, since having sentries placed in dimly-lit areas is easy to miss. We tend to play through most of the levels using nothing but stealth and being seen by the guards would require me to reload the save. If you’re like me, the Extended Vision skill will become a necessity.
