Top 3 Best Godzilla Video Games You Should Try

Godzilla Video Games

Godzilla Video Games

Godzilla is such a beloved IP. The franchise has been making a bit of a comeback lately, and it’s giving newcomers and veterans some more gripping action moments with the defenders of the humanities. Meanwhile, Godzilla video games are quite low with very few titles worth playing. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of video games that feature Godzilla, but the notable ones that are really worth playing can be a bit thin.

Godzilla Domination – Godzilla video games

Godzilla Video Games

Godzilla Domination is a game developed by WayForward Technologies, but as part of developer Pipeworks Software, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, a game we’ll dive into later in this list. When it comes to the story of Godzilla Domination, it’s pretty basic.

Basically, in this game, the Earth is suffering from magnetic waves that cause nerve damage to various large monsters. This forces the monsters into a frenzy as they storm cities and deal as much damage as possible. However, one monster was left untouched and set out on a journey to stop other monsters from further wreaking havoc on humanity.

Of course, which monster is unaffected is up to the player as there is a limited selection of characters available to choose from. Gameplay is more about a classy perspective as you freely move the character around the screen, destroying buildings and cars while fighting against enemy monsters.

As we mentioned earlier, this is a game developed by WayForward Technologies around the time of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, it is a game that cannot reach the Nintendo Gameboy Advance platform. As a GBA game, its game mechanics are a bit basic and easy for players to pick up, but it has served as a great arcade-like Godzilla video games experience if you happen to be on the go.

City of Giant Shadows – Godzilla video games

Godzilla Video Games

City of Giant Shadows aka Kyoei Toshi is one of the Godzilla video games that unfortunately didn’t launch outside of Japan. Released in 2017, this game is the spiritual successor to the Disaster Report series, which was released in Western markets.

If you’re familiar with the Disaster Report series, you know that IP deals with players trying to survive natural environmental hazards, such as a massive earthquake. From there, it’s about making choices and helping others along the way, which can be fatal if you make the wrong decision.

In City of Giant Shadows, we get the same gameplay mechanics, but instead of being trapped in the perils of the natural environment, we have to survive the giant monsters attacking the city. Several iconic characters are included in this game as they roam the city such as Ultraman, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, among others.

It’s not clear why this game was never released in Western markets as it was a huge hit in Japan upon release, but we’ll probably see some tweaks to the fan translation. Launched to allow players to experience this game in the future if not an official Western release.

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee

Finally, one of the most popular Godzilla games ever released on the market is Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee. Just like the video game Godzilla Domination, this title revolves around monsters that will rampage and destroy the planet.

Fortunately, a monster escaped this curse and began an effort to destroy other giant creatures. In the game, the player goes through battles with monsters although in the process of fighting these creatures, buildings and surroundings are destroyed. Likewise, this game supports multiplayer with up to four players able to engage in a battle with large monsters.

The controls in this game are quite advanced compared to Godzilla Domination, but it’s not so bad that newbies can’t pick a controller to take down their opponents for a quick win. It’s a video game-like experience that you can easily immerse yourself in for hours.
