There are tons of great new video game titles coming out in 2021, and there’s something for everyone in every genre. If you’re after some classic turn based RPGs, we’ve got you covered. In this list, we’re highlighting some of the very best new turn-based RPG titles that we can’t wait to get our hands on this year. Currently, we have not listed these games in any particular way as we are still waiting for some of these games to release in the market.
Bravely Default 2 – turn based RPGs
If you’ve enjoyed the Bravely Default series on the Nintendo 3DS then you can continue the fun with a third installment, Bravely Default 2. With that said, if you haven’t played the previous titles in the series, you’re in luck as Bravely Default 2 comes with a whole new storyline along with the cast of characters.
This is a lot like one of your typical turn based RPGs, where the player joins a party and embarks on an adventure to confront an evil villain. There’s a lot of exploration and honing along the way.
Meanwhile, the battle has the player deciding when to attack and when to defend. Both play an important role as you can reserve your attacks when you’re on the defensive, so there’s a bit of strategy here. Your custom team will all have a specific role as well as having a white mage, vanguard, monk or thief to help compliment your gameplay.
In the end, you’ll find that Bravely Default II is exclusive to Nintendo Switch, but you don’t have to spend your money just to see if you like the game.
Shin Megami Tensei V – turn based RPGs
A new part of Shin Megami Tensei is coming out this year. Shin Megami Tensei V is being developed by the good folks at Atlus for a release sometime in 2021. We know it’s coming to Nintendo Switch and will once again be set in present-day Tokyo, where you’ll still be.
Engage in demonic fusion and fight with different hostile enemies. Unfortunately, Atlus has kept this game pretty tight-lipped as they haven’t revealed too much about what we can expect with this sequel.
It is said that the game will be a combination of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei IV, but again we haven’t seen any gameplay footage so far. We’re not entirely sure when this game will launch in 2021 although we last saw the game in July 2020 at a Nintendo Direct showcase that confirmed the release date for 2021.
Total War: Warhammer III
After Total War: Warhammer II came out back in 2017, we’ve finally got our third major installment this year. The on of the upcoming popular turn based RPGs from the Creative Assembly development team.
Fans can’t wait to get their hands on a third installment, where we’ll see six factions this time as we prepare for a demonic apocalypse battle. Now it’s up to the players to decide if they’ll use the daemon or side with them.
Similar to the other games on this list, details are still a bit scarce, and we’re not entirely sure if we’ll get a copy of this game before the end of 2021. Currently, the title is slated to release later this year so it’s likely we won’t see Total War: Warhammer III hit the market until 2022, but for now this is the game we’re after.
