Top 3 Best Open World Zombie Games Of 2021

Open World Zombie

There is nothing around it. Zombies are extremely popular from movies to TV shows and even video games. Maybe you can name a few zombie games like the iconic Resident Evil series. However, if you’re looking for an open-world zombie experience, you’ve come to the right place. There are a lot of zombie games coming out, some even made to be set in the open world, such as Dying Light 2. Today, we’re going to dive into some best open world zombie games out there.

7 Days To Die – open world zombie

Open World Zombie

7 Days to Die is a pretty famous zombie game from the developer The Fun Pimps. The game takes place after a world war that left most of the planet wiped out due to nuclear weapons. Exposure to radiation, most humans become mindless zombies, the few remaining survivors must scour to survive. Like other open world zombie survival games, this is a wave based title where players will need to search for shelter, food, and of course, water.

There is quite a bit of crafting in this game and as the title suggests you have a week to prepare for your tackle because at the end of the week you will see a horde of zombies rampaging your area. If you survive the night then you can once again go out and gather supplies, retool your base, and even make some useful upgrades.

This game also comes with the added benefit of cooperative gameplay so you can build a base with your friends and prepare for the battle ahead. It may seem like a theme for this list, but players will find that this title is also stuck in early access.

Dying Light – open world zombie

Open World Zombie

Like how I mentioned earlier, Dying Light is a game developed by Techland. This video game follows an agent named Kyle Crane, who is tasked with infiltrating an isolated city of Harran that has been infected with a virus that turns civilians into ruthless zombies.

The zombies in this game have a day and night cycle. During the day, the zombies are lethargic, not bringing much combat to the player during exploration. However, things quickly take a turn for the worse at night when they become much more aggressive.

The developers have also included some parkour elements in the game that allow the player to easily traverse the city and its obstacles while fleeing from hordes of the undead. Combat well has been changed from a Dead Island melee focus to gunplay, giving players an action-adventure experience.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s also a DLC expansion, called Dying Light: The following. This expansion brings players into a new map with more content, such as modifiable vehicles. Meanwhile, zombies are still a huge threat but next to them is an ancient cult, but I won’t spoil what’s coming in this game’s story if you haven’t played it yet.

State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition

Open World Zombie

The last of our open world zombie games list, we have the State of Decay franchise, specifically State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition. In State of Decay 2, players are dropped into an open world where they must build civilization. This means making a settlement and finding a community to help strengthen your base. You can even recruit one of these members to go with you on scavenging runs or find survivors to bring back.

There’s a campaign attached and you’ll find a co-op game mode attached where a friend can go online and see how your community has built. If you are after this game then I recommend you check out Juggernaut Edition. This gives players more content to go through, along with a new open world map, more weapons, not to mention you have the base game and DLC that has also been released for the title.
