2020 has not been the best year for the video game industry. We had an outbreak of a worldwide health pandemic that forced some jobs to be shut down for a period of time. Not long after that, development studios began to transition from working in the office to working remotely. That eventually forced developers to delay some video game projects. Therefore, 2021 will be a year filled with video game releases. For example, check out some of the most anticipated new zombie games so far for 2021.

World War Z: Aftermath

World War Z is not a newly released video game. The game launched in 2020, but this year has received a major update. Aftermath brings more content for players to tackle. There is the addition of melee combat along with new areas for fighting the undead.

However, if you haven’t picked up the title, it will be similar to Left 4 Dead or Back 4 Blood. It’s an FPS zombie cooperative game where you fight the undead as a team. Meanwhile, there are different objectives to complete and various enemies to track down.

Days Gone – new zombie games

Sony made some big moves when they revealed that their PlayStation 4 exclusive title, Horizon Zero Dawn, will be making its way to the PC platform. Since then, Sony has gradually added more games to the PC platform. In 2021 we get the Days Gone exclusivity.

Players take on the role of a cyclist named Deacon St. John, who is surviving in the harsh world doing odd jobs for various factions along with his best friend, Boozer. This one of the new zombie games is set in an open-world environment that allows the player to freely explore and take on various quests at any given time.

However, because this world is overrun with zombies, it can be difficult for you to visit certain locations, especially if you find yourself blocked by a crowd. While surviving in the harsh world is a priority, Deacon is on a new journey hoping to find out what happened to his wife when they were separated during the height of the pandemic. New information has surfaced, leading Deacon into another goose chase.

Back 4 Blood – new zombie games

Turtle Rock Studios is responsible for creating Left 4 Dead, a huge hit that Valve currently owns. The video game franchise places survivors in a zombie pandemic, in which players are forced to complete a series of missions in order to be rescued.

There are two seasons available and both are iconic hits, although Turtle Rock Studios has since parted ways with Valve and has worked on other projects. Fortunately, the studio was interested in returning to the world of zombie swarms and thrilling action moments and came up with a spiritual successor with Back 4 Blood. Overall, the goal of the developers is to come up with a new game that expands on story, enemies, and weapon variations.

Also, there’s a new card mechanics system here. Players can unlock cards and add them to their characters. These cards act as facilitators to keep them active throughout the campaign. However, you will also find that the enemy AI in the game will have its own set of cards to present challenges.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is one of the new zombie games made by Capcom. While Capcom has gone back to remake some of the earlier installments for the franchise, the latest expansion is a major new release. Resident Evil Village returns the player to Ethan’s place after the events of Resident Evil 7. Ethan’s world is once again in disarray after Chris Redfield decides to reappear during a scheduled turn of events.

This prompts Ethan to demand answers after his child, Rose, is apparently kidnapped. Trapped in a remote village with new terrifying creatures, it’s a scary uphill battle. Although, in addition to the usual undead zombies, this game has many types of enemies. Everything from lycans to vampires is found here. Meanwhile, the game has the familiar brushstrokes of a Resident Evil game.

There’s plenty of exploration, boss battles, and puzzles to solve. Luckily, the developers have also added a recap video, so if you missed Resident Evil 7, you can still see everything that happened before the start of Resident Evil Village.
