Today, we’re going to take a look at the weirdest, most unlikely crossovers in the game. There was some wild content that we couldn’t finally fit into this list – Mario and Sonic, together, at the Olympic Games?! It’s not likely now that Sega isn’t in the console business and hasn’t gotten any better in 20 years. Mario + Rabbids, one of the weirdest hybrid games of all time, is actually getting a sequel, and the game is so great, it seems like a natural fit for pairing weird little mascots with Mario.
Kratos (Mortal Kombat 9) – Unlikely Crossovers
Kratos in Mortal Kombat 9 seems like a perfect fit for the unlikely crossovers. Hero of God of War is exclusive to the PS3 version of MK9, and it’s not Kratos’ only game in the fighting game arena. Kratos also appears as a playable character in Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny for PSP. His appearance in MK9 makes even more sense – Kratos loves to kill people brutally, doesn’t he?
The crossover was the company’s perfect synergy, but the results were uncanny. Sony, the publisher behind God of War, doesn’t want Kratos to appear weak – so he won’t scream, cower or cry in pain if any of the many (many) deaths of the game is used against him.
In fact, there’s an extensive list of deaths that are heavily altered and edited so that Kratos always looks lousy. Why include an unstoppable character like Kratos if we’re not allowed to torture him horribly while swearing like crazy!
Fortnite has a lot of unlikely crossover characters, we think nothing can surprise us. Lara Croft. Mandalorian. Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn. If Epic releases a trailer for the playable Shrek skin next week, we don’t think it will surprise anyone.
Fortnite, out of nowhere, has teamed up with the fantasy YA series of Mistborn novels, so you can play as… Kelsier? He was a thief dressed in black who didn’t leave much of an impression. Most Fortnite players will just assume this guy is any other Season Pass skin. And not even a good one. How did this happen?
It turns out that the writer of Mistborn and the director of Fortnite are friends. The only way this makes sense is if personal bribery is involved. If you’re friends with Fortnite’s spice-themed director, you can also put your low-rent YA fantasy heroes on a global platform!
Kazuya (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate)
Weird surprise that no one expected at E3 2021. Kazuya, the anti-hero of Namco’s Tekken fighting game series, enters Super Smash Bros. .
Ultimate by Nintendo. We guess it’s only a matter of time before a Tekken character passes. Super Smash features other fighting game icons like Ryu – Kazuya can’t let that guy get all the glory. The trailer is hilarious, as Kazuya hurls the warriors into the volcano, one by one, as he powers up into his Devil form. Tekken is a weird series that doesn’t take itself as seriously as its semi-realistic style seems to suggest, so that really makes Kazuya a natural fit for Smash Bros. That is the top 3 list of unlikely crossovers we want to share.
