Watch Overwatch League: The 2021 Overwatch League season is coming much later this year, but fans are chomping around to see their favorite teams compete once more.
Here are the OWL start dates to look for, how fans can expect the season to be organized and how to watch the matches.
OWL Vice President Jon Spector made public concrete news on the 2021 season in January. While the season usually started in January or February, this year the OWL delayed the start of the season to push for in person events later in the year.
While Spector has not promised that the events will be in person, the OWL is looking forward to returning to them as soon as possible. In addition, the seasonal structure will be adopted by the league after switching to all online games in 2020.
When does the 2021 Overwatch League start?
Spector told the fans to expect an April start date for the 2021 Overwatch League season. While the standard start dates were either January or February until this point, the desire to get back to in person events is what Spector cites as the purpose for such a late start. It gives the league the best chance to be able to open in person events later in the year, even though they are not promised.
Although April was provided as the month matches will begin again, there are still no concrete dates for the resumption of the competition. People are expecting that matches will start in early April, but so far there is hardly any word when matches will start, or when fans will get a concrete date.
Blizzard Overwatch League’s 2021 structure
The Tournaments will be the structure of the OWL 2021 season. In 2020, Blizzard was forced to switch to an online only model that did not fit well with what they had planned for the season, so they decided to switch to a tournament format with some regular season games mixed between the tournaments.
This worked well for the league, and it’s going to continue in the 2021 Overwatch League season.
There will be four separate tournaments, but they will earn points to qualify for the 2021 playoffs. One of the biggest changes is that teams will be playing across regions more often this season.
Spector mentioned about how that would be possible with a new minimum latency tool that sets the minimum ping and even the playing field. This allows teams from around the globe to play matches fairly.
Apart from 2020, all four of the tournaments will be inter regional, and fans won’t have to wait to predict who’s going to be the best in the league.

Where to watch Overwatch League matches
Watch Overwatch League will be available live on YouTube Gaming. Some improvements to the viewer experience have been made this year, such as spoiler free thumbnails and a spoiler free viewing mode.
Spector has not been able to expand on any of the other improvements they have made to the viewer’s experience, but fans would prefer that the quality of the visual experience will increase to close to what it was when the matches were broadcast on Twitch.
Like always, viewers will be able to win League Tokens while watching matches. Five League Tokens are awarded per hour, and fans will earn them on the basis of a cumulative watch period, which means that the viewer can watch 30 minutes at a time and still receive credit for every half hour.
The Overwatch League is expected to reveal a start date in the next month or two. The teams are already locked and prepared to leave, with the exception of the Los Angeles Valiant, for the 2021 season.
